The Church on the Lane

book of remembanceMemorial Project

In August 2020 and our Memorial Project was  almost completed, the plants have now grown and we will be dedicating our Garden of Reflection and labyrinth at a special service on Sunday 23rd May at 3.00 p.m. via YouTube. All are invited to join us in this celebration.  Contact our church office for more information.

Here are the steps that have been part of our overall Memorial Project:

Nov 2017 The Memorial Book was ready and on display in the Chapel
9 June 2018 Ruxley Challenge Walk – the big fund raiser
21 June 2019 Peace Stone installed. Dedicated on 22/9/19. The stone was sourced for us by Silverland, Chertsey and came from a Welsh slate mine. It is green slate. It was engraved and installed by Peace Memorials, New Malden.
13 Feb 2020 Building of garden and labyrinth completed by Jobson Landscapes.
Feb 2020 Taking advice from Rev Stuart Veitch about planting ideas
Aug 2020 Planting of Garden of Reflection completed. Plants have come from Chessington Garden Centre, Moat Garden Centre and RHS Wisley Plant Centre.

Yes, it may have taken a while but “all good things come to he who waits!”.

1.  Creation of a Memorial Book - which is now available to see in our chapel

2.   Erection of a Peace Stone - which is now in place and was dedicated at a special service  on Sunday 22nd September at 3.00 p.m.

3.   A special Memorial Garden.  The first stage of this is looking good.  The builders finished the building work at the beginning of February, and we now look forward to the spring when plants can be planted.

4. Garden of Reflection

If you have walked past the church recently you will have noticed a change. Since 5th August we have been planting, and now there is a beautiful space for you to sit in and enjoy. The plants will provide all year round interest; some are scented, some are lovely to touch, there are evergreens for structure and climbers to cloak the fences. We do hope you will enjoy using this space.

A small garden team now meets regularly to look after this area, the rest of the garden and lawn spaces. It was very noticeable when the main ‘green’ was recently cut for the first time. We welcome any offers of help.

We are grateful to all of you who helped with our fund raising which all started in 2018 with our Ruxley Challenge Walk. The garden is now a reality. Soon to come will be more information about the Labyrinth and suggestions for how to make a prayerful walk.. We are now sorting out signage and working towards the plaques for the pillars.
